OLED & LCD Screen Comparison

OLED screens offer superior contrast, deeper blacks, and better battery efficiency (especially with dark mode) because each pixel is self-illuminating. LCD screens, found on older or budget models, rely on a backlight that consumes more power and can produce a less vibrant image with greyer blacks, but they are typically less expensive in repair cost.
Keys differences between OLED and LCD:
| Feature | OLED | LCD |
|---|---|---|
|
Contrast & Color |
Higher contrast, deeper blacks, more vibrant colors. |
Lower contrast, grayer blacks, and generally less vibrant colors. |
|
Battery Life |
More energy-efficient, especially with dark images, due to individual pixel control. | Can be less efficient as a constant backlight is always on. |
| Brightness | Can get very bright, but in some cases, LCDs can be brighter in direct sunlight. |
Often brighter, which can be better for viewing in well-lit environments. |
| Viewing Angles | Excellent |
Varies (often worse) |
| Burn-in Risk | Yes | No |
| Thickness/ Fit | Very thin / sit flush with housing | Thicker; might sit higher and easier to break. |
| Repair Cost | More expensive | Cheaper |
